I know if this is default behavior however I had so many plugins on this server it is often hard to tell what comes from WordPress core and what comes from plugins. As this is a live site I didn’t want to turn off all plugins until I found the one creating the issue.

My solution was to use a .htaccess 301 redirect from one hostname to the other. This redirect happens before WordPress gets involved so all WordPress sees is the domain it thinks its running on.

This will redirect all requests to the domain www.topsemtips.com that do not use that as the host name (they might use topsemtips.com or xyz.com) to the same URL with the host name changed to www.topsemtips.com.

They know I shared the URLs so if Google wants to implement personalization they obviously don’t need me to join Google+ – this appears to be leveraging one product to hawk another which is what Microsoft kept doing (and kept getting fined for doing) with their Internet Explorer product. Hopefully Google will get investigated and fined – as they should be for this blatantly anti-competitive behavior by a monopoly in the search market.

I caught this because I have the ‘Redirection’ plugin installed and set to log all accesses that result in a 404 error – usually I use this to put in redirects to stop the visitor getting a ‘page not found’ message. In this instance it has helped highlight someone trying to hack the site.

• Installed ‘Bad Behavior’ plugin – this knows ways people try to hack your system and blocks them. Not sure if it would catch this scan attack but it catches other scanners so is always good to install.
• Remove unnecessary themes. I always leave the current theme and one of the WordPress installed themes (Twenty Ten/Twenty Eleven) – this way if the main theme breaks for some reason there’s always a fallback theme and I know these two themes are supported and maintained by WordPress. All other themes including the earlier WordPress themes 1.5 and 1.6 are removed.

Whomever is running Qriocity needs to have a reality check – that is ridiculous! Have you been to your local supermarket and seen Redbox yet? $1 per movie is a more realistic figure, given you don’t have any physical locations, machines to install or repair, any discs to repair and replace your price should be LOWER than Redbox, not 4 times higher.

So I went to the Qriocity  website to let them know about this pricing faux pas and there is no easy way to let them know how I feel – so I’ve posted it here.
Sony – get your head out of your a** and make this service a reasonable price or I’m sticking to Netflix and Redbox.

Once the cycle is complete, start it over again at the highest level and hottest temperature and add the two cups of white vinegar into the water. Again let that sit for awhile with the lid open. After letting it sit, close the lid and allow for the cycle to finish.

If you can, remove the fabric softener dispenser and bleach dispenser from the machine and scrub them. Remove the agitator from the drum and clean the inside of that too. Once all that is finished, re-do the two steps of bleach and vinegar again. Your washer should be completely clean after that.

My suggestion is that you DO NOT use fabric softener in your loads. Instead replace it with a cup of white vinegar, or nothing at all.

When you go to dry your laundry DO NOT use dryer sheets because they are a fire hazard and also produce a film in your dryer allowing lint to adhere to the inside increasing your chances of having a fire.

Also I suggest that you have a chimney sweep come and clean out your lint trap that goes from the dryer to the outside of the house. This improves the dryers ability to dry your laundry and decrease the chance of a fire.

By doing all these things your laundry will come out cleaner and smell better than you ever imagined.

My main problem currently is the lack of speed in IE8. I run IE8 on a 2 year old laptop with 2GB RAM and it can take 30 seconds to start. The Javascript performance is appalling. The built in debugger is confusing. I generally work in Firefox 3 with Firebug which in comparison starts in less than 5 seconds, Firebug is really intuitive too and with the Web Developer plugin I get control of CSS on the fly – and ideal development environment.

First impression of the install – why do I need to reboot windows to install this? I don’t need to reboot for Firefox updates, nor most other software. Then on the reboot its obviously reconfiguring and installing something at the system level. Thought this tight integration wasn’t allowed any more? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_Union_Microsoft_competition_case Guess that doesn’t apply in the US.

So now we’re running IE9 Beta and gave it a test spin with Zillow.com. Initial reactions were that most sites just worked. The property details page failed to show the property map but otherwise worked fine.

My wife tried it going to Gmail but had issues with the application crashing and got a little fed up, but being Beta software some issues are to be expected.

I ran some of the browser benchmarks such as the IE Fish Tank and they run really smooth, much better than my Firefox installation at the office http://ie.microsoft.com/testdrive/performance/fishIE%20tank/default.html

The Speed Reading test is impossible to read on either IE9 or Firefox 3 – on IE9 its too quick, and on Firefox 3 its too slow to bother waiting for.

Overall the browser seems really nice, I’m really looking forward to the speed improvements in rich content, the other new features I didn’t see a point to yet. Some work on the remaining bugs and it should be a good upgrade.

As a contrast let me tell you about the hotel we stayed in in New York. On the third day there my daughter had some bites show up on her legs, she lay in and woke up again with more bites. They could have been mosquitoes but given the number of bites increased after she lay in they may have been bed bugs. So we go to reception and tell them about the possible bed bugs. They immediately move us to a suite so they can eradicate the bugs. They offer to do laundry of any items that may have been exposed. They also had security take details and photos of the bites.  Given that we didn’t know for sure they were bed bugs  their response was amazing. You’ll notice I have left the hotel’s name out of this story. If they had reacted differently I would have blogged how awful the place was, along with reviews on every site I could find. Instead I use it as a story I tell my friends about how great the hotel is.
